Lukas Ingold Architecture is a Zurich-based practice engaged with architecture and its multifaceted relationship to the natural and human-made environment. Its main focus is on complex design and construction tasks in which different interests and demands need to be reconciled. A strong emphasis is placed on questions of the organization of spatial and structural systems, not only in terms of design and technology, but also from a historical, cultural, and social perspective.
Lukas Ingold completed an apprenticeship as an architectural draftsman (2000–2005) and then studied architecture at the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BA 2006–2009) and ETH Zurich (MSc 2009–2012). He graduated with a doctorate from ETH Zurich under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Joseph Schwartz (Dr. sc. 2016–2022). At ETH Zurich, he worked as a lecturer and carried out various research projects (2014–2023). Furthermore, he gained practical experience in various architecture offices, among others, with Christian Kerez in Zurich (2012–2014). In 2014, he established his own practice.
For his work in practice and research, he has received various grants, among others from the Ernst Schindler Stiftung (2013), the Swiss National Science Foundation (2016–2017), the Istituto Svizzero (2016–2017), the Federation of Swiss Architects (2020–2022), the Architectural Council of Switzerland (2023–2024), and Pro Helvetia (2023–2025).
